Room for Thoughts

From "A+" Student to Average Student

I was a straight A's student in high school. I was on the Honor roll. I was in AP English and AP Calculus. I was part of the basketball team and the band. It all sounds great. But in reality, I was completely average.

I cheated in some classes. Took advantage of my friendship with the teachers so they could be lenient with me. I was also friends with the smart students so group projects were easy (I still did my part). I was decent on the team, but never MVP.

Band and math are the only classes that I can really say I tried my best. I was a percussionist on the timpani, sometimes switching to other percussion instruments if need be. I loved learning about matrices in Pre-calculus.

But once University/College happened, it truly showed me just how much I was average, just decent. I thought I was pretty smart, until I got my first ever C grade. It hurt my ego. But considering on how much I cheated in High school, it makes sense.

I still studied hard in College, to finish my degree. However, seeing my GPA be the lowest it's ever been, I was jealous of the students who are graduating with honors. Granted I'm not the only one. Not many students have the cord.

It still hurts.
